Rhizomatous species up to 45 cm tall, winter dormancy. Leaves ovate-lanceolate, up to 15 cm long, toothed on the margin, shiny, sparsely hairy. Flowers axillary, pendulous, up to 4.5 cm long with narrow tube and purple-colored expanded lobes. It grows in humid and shady areas of the mountain forests of Mexico and Central America. Well-drained soil and shady location. Regular watering in the vegetative period, reduced to 1-2 per month during the winter vegetative rest.
