Succulent species 15-25 cm tall. Leathery leaves, light green in colour, ending in a sharp brown spine and streaked below. The leaves form a dense compact rosette. It is one of the few non-monocarpic agaves. The initial rosettes, after the inflorescences finish flowering in mid-summer, branch out and continue to grow, eventually creating a stack of porcupine-like rosettes. Native species of Mexico (Coahuilia, Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, Durango, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, puebla). In nature, it grows in the driest valleys and plains, with annual rainfall of less than 500 mm. It prefers well-drained soil and a position in full sun or partial shade. Water once every 10-15 days in summer, never in winter. Half-hardy, it tolerates minimum temperatures not below -3°C if completely dry. Bare root little plant.
