Rhizomatous species with elongated, white and scaly rhizomes.

Ovate-lanceolate leaves, toothed on the margin, pubescent, green with light darker streaks in correspondence with the veins. Inflorescences exceeding the leaves. Large, pendulous, funnel-shaped, white flowers. Flowering occurs in autumn, after which the plant goes into vegetative rest (losing the aerial part) and returns to vegetation in April-May.

Regular watering during the growing season, once or twice a month in winter. Shaded location and humus-rich but slightly drained soil.

Native species of Mexico (Oaxaca). In nature it grows in low mountain forests but cannot stand frost.

Not hardy.
