Achimenes mexicana

Rhizomatous species winter dormant. Rhizomes white, scaly. Ovate leaves, crenate on the margin, velvety, light green in colour. Funnel-shaped blue-violet flowers with white throat, very showy and abundant. Native to northwestern Mexico, it grows in forests. Slightly drained soil rich in humus. Shady location. Regular watering from April to November: avoid letting the soil dry out during vegetation otherwise the plant will become stressed and flower little or not at all. Dry soil in winter (water only once a month). Not hardy. Plant in a 14 cm pot.
