Clumping succulent species. Erect or slightly curved leaves, dark green in colour, flexible and sharp, dotted with tubercles that form transverse lines on the external surface. The leaves are arranged in a spiral on the short stems to form compact but not very long rosettes. Native species of the Eastern Cape (South Africa). In the wild it grows in the arid habitat of the Karroo, often under bushes. It therefore prefers a position in partial shade and very well-drained soil. Water often during the summer (even 1 or 2 times a week) but in winter once a month may be enough. Half-hardy.
