Tropical climbing species. Hoya carnosa is a climbing plant with twining stems native to the rain tropical forests of southern China, Laos, Japan (Kyushu), and Taiwan. It has ovate-lanceolate, very fleshy leaves (hence the specific epithet) and dense, pendulous, spherical inflorescences of delightful, pinkish-white star-shaped flowers with a red crown. The flowers have a waxy texture, hence its nickname "wax flower." It requires a shady location and a very well-drained soil. Water abundantly and frequently in summer, but only two or three times a month in winter (unless the overwintering environment is very warm). It is not hardy, but can withstand temperatures close to freezing. One of the easiest Hoya species to grow. Potted plants.
