Rhizomatous, accestent geophyte. Linear-lanceolate leaves, with parallel veins in evidence, up to 50 cm long and 8-12 mm wide. Branched inflorescences, noticeably exceeding the leaves, bearing numerous blue flowers with 6 tepals. Each flower lasts only one day, but new ones open every day. Flowering occurs in spring (April-May). Native to South Africa (Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZuluNatal) and as far north as Tanzania. In the wild it grows in shrubs and forests but also in disturbed soils, as well as on banks and rocky and bare soils. Half-hardy. It adapts to all types of soil as long as they are drained and prefers a sunny or semi-shaded position. Regular watering in summer, less watering in winter. 16 cm pot plant.
