Rhizomatous iris with a creeping underground rhizome.

It is probably a hybrid of Iris lutescens with ensiform leaves up to 30 cm long. The flower stalk is up to 40 cm long, bearing one or two scented, deep, velvety purple flowers.

It requires well-drained soil and a location in full sun or partial shade. In summer, it does not require any watering, apart from occasional showers.
