Paeonia ostii

Shrub species about 1.5 m tall.

Woody stems and glaucous, bipinnate leaves. White flowers, solitary, very large, 12-16 cm in diameter when fully open. The rosy central stigma is surrounded by a crown of showy yellow stamens.

Native to China (western part of the province of Henan) where it grows on slopes in deciduous forests between 800 and 1600 m and often cultivated as a medicinal plant.

Hardy.

It prefers well-drained soil and a semi-shaded location. Regular watering in summer.

Plant from seed in a long square pot measuring 9 cm on each side.
