Rhizomatous species with thin rhizomes.

Spatulate leaves, 15-20 x 12-30 mm, lanceolate, green crossed by very light paler bands, unusually equipped with a petiole of about 10-15 cm. Spiciform inflorescence, 30 cm long, bearing numerous white flowers. Native to coastal southern Tanzania, Mozambique, southern Zimbabwe and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) and grows on sandy soil, in coastal forests.

It therefore requires a sandy well drained soil and a shady position. Water about every 10 days in summer, but leave dry in winter.

Not hardyi.

Bare root plant.
