Succulent species with underground creeping rhizome. Sub-cylindrical leaves, erect, slightly arched at the apex, green-grey in colour with slight darker transverse bands, up to 2.40 m long (but generally lower in cultivation). The leaves have a long lateral channel that runs along the entire length of the leaves up to the reddish tip. The name singularis derives from the fact that the leaves grow solitary and not in groups like other species; this characteristic is typical of adult plants, in fact young plants have very different leaves and arranged in a rosette and only after about ten years will they begin to produce solitary leaves. It is commonly called sanseviera "elephant tusk" because the leaves tend to arch at the apex, reminiscent of an elephant tusk. The very compact inflorescences form at ground level and are made up of small white flowers close to each other. The plants flower very rarely, especially in cultivation. Native species of Kenya. It needs well-drained soil and a very bright position but not in full sun. Water every 10-20 days from March to October but keep dry in winter or at most water once a month if necessary. Not hardy. Plant in a long pot or bare root.
