A succulent species with clumping, prostrate stems.

Stems 5-12 cm long, quadrangular or pentagonal in cross-section, with distinct, pointed tubercles. The flowers appear at the base of the young stems: they are cup-shaped, strongly papillose, and dark red-purple in color with a faint carrion odor.

A species native to Kenya and northern Tanzania. In the wild, it generally grows in rocky or stony areas under shrubs or trees in light shade between 1,500 and 2,000 m above sea level.

Very well-drained soil and a location in partial shade or filtered light. Water every 7-20 days during the growing season (approximately March to October), but leave dry in winter.

Not hardy.

Bare-root plant.
