A clumping succulent species.

Dull grayish-green stems, four-angled, tinged with pink, with sharp, spreading teeth. It forms small, dense tufts up to 10 cm in diameter. The star-shaped flowers, 2.5–3.5 cm in diameter, have a wide aperture and a raised, dark red annulus or central ring, and enlarged, ivory-colored lobes with light reddish streaks. The flowers appear in small clusters at the base of young stems.

A species native to South Africa (Northern Province) and Mpumalanga (Eastern Transvaal), between 1,300–1,850 meters above sea level. In the wild, it grows in rocky environments and on granite slopes.

It requires very well-drained soil and a location in partial shade. Water once every 7-20 days during the growing season (approximately March to October), but never in winter.

Not hardy.

Bare-root plant with a single or slightly branched stem.
