The smallest of all Tephrocactus. It produces ovoid or rounded articles with a diameter of 1-3 cm with white spines, sparse but strong. The plant grows rather compactly creating a sort of cushion. Pink flowers in clusters, but flowering is rare in cultivation. Native species of South America where it grows in well-drained soil and can thrive in a variety of environments, including rocky soils, prairies and even among rocks on mountain slopes up to 4000 m altitude. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny or semi-shaded position. Water every 10-20 days from March to October but keep dry in winter. Hardy. Cutting, bare-root plant or potted plant.
