Stoloniferous and accestent shrub up to 1 m tall. Initially flexible stems then woody. Linear-lanceolate leaves, opposite, 10-15 cm long. Tubular flowers red in the lower half and yellow in the upper half, axillary. Flowering begins in late spring and often continues throughout the summer and part of autumn. Native to central and southwestern Mexico where it grows along the margins of fast-flowing streams and along irrigation ditches. Light soil rich in humus. Sunny or semi-shaded position. Abundant watering during the summer, but less watering in winter. Where possible it can grow well on the edges of ponds or ponds. Half-hardy. 1 potted plant 20cm.
