Ruellia simplex 'Katie' (Ruellia brittoniana 'Katie')

Shrub species up to 30 cm tall. Very branched, the plant has long and narrow lanceolate dark green leaves. Purple funnel-shaped flowers produced in large quantities at the apex of the stems in summer-autumn. The type species is native to Mexico and tropical America. In the wild, it grows along streams, in wetlands and on the edges of ponds. It needs humus-rich soil and a shady or semi-shady location. Suitable for humid areas, it requires abundant watering during the summer. Half-hardy. Plant in 14 cm pot.
