Aspidistra attenuata 'Small n' Smart' BSWJ3727 (Aspidistra elatior var. attenuata 'Small n' Smart')

A rhizomatous species with creeping rhizomes.

Erect leaves with a 30-40 cm long petiole and an ovate-lanceolate blade measuring 45-50 x 7-10 cm, dark green in color with sparse yellow spots. Bell-shaped flowers, 2.5 cm in diameter, are yellow with reddish hues on the outside and reddish-purple on the inside, consisting of eight reflexed lobes.

The type species is native to Taiwan, where it grows in high-altitude forests between 1,000 and 2,000 m.

It therefore requires a very shady location and humus-rich soil. Regular watering in summer.

Hardy to -15°C.

Plant in a 14 cm pot.
