Bulbous species up to 60 cm tall. Linear-lanceolate leaves, perennial (it hardly loses its leaves except for intense drought or a very harsh winter. Floral scape bearing at the apex several bell-shaped flowers up to 10 cm wide, of a bright red colour. Flowering occurs at the end of the summer or early autumn. Hardy, evergreen species, native to South Africa (Cape Province). Half-hardy. 1 bulb.
