Summer-growing tuberous begonia.

This begonia has a disc-shaped or rounded tuber from which fleshy, branched stems develop in spring. The stems can reach a height of 50-60 cm and bear completely green, ovate-lanceolate leaves. In summer, the plant blooms and fills with delightful, pendulous pink flowers in branched inflorescences. In autumn, the stems fall, and the plant goes dormant until the following spring.

It adapts to almost all soil types, avoiding overly sandy soils with waterlogging. It requires a shaded or partial shade location. Water regularly and abundantly during the summer.

A native species of the mountain forests of eastern China.

Hardy, it survives without problems down to at least -10 degrees Celsius. It can also tolerate lower temperatures if kept dry.

Tuber.
