Caudiciform species native to South Africa (Cape Province and KwaZuluNatal). Branching, herbaceous, reddish stems and palmate-partite, green leaves densely speckled with silver-white spots. White flowers in pendulous inflorescences from spring to autumn. Over time the plant produces a low basal caudex which tends to widen as the plant grows. Begonia dregei in nature grows in forests on mossy rocks from sea level up to 1219 m. It therefore prefers a shady position and regular watering in the hot season; in winter reduce watering to induce the plant to go into vegetative rest during which it will lose most of the leaves.
