Lithophytic or epiphytic species with monocarpic clumping rosettes (each rosette dies after flowering but produces new plants from the base).
Leaves 25-70 cm long by 4-6 cm broad, rigid, light green with light transverse gray bands, toothed on the margin and ending with a 10 mm long spine. Robust floral scape bearing an ovate inflorescence made up of numerous showy bracts of an intense pink color. At the base of the bracts develop small white flowers with a blue apex.
The species comes from Brazil where grows on rocky formations or on the trees of coastal forests.
It is grown in very well-drained soil and in a semi-shaded position. Allow the soil to dry before watering again.
Half-hardy.
