Dioecious species. Leathery leaves, narrow and pointed, up to 30 cm long, curved downwards at the apex and equipped with hooked spines on the margin. The leaves tend to turn reddish in bright light. Compound spike inflorescence, made up of numerous small white flowers. Native species of central and central-northern Mexico where it grows on open rocky grounds or on rocks in dry deciduous woods, between 1800 and 2500 m. It requires well-drained soil, even stony or rocky, and a position in partial shade or full sun. Half-hardy. 3 year old bare root plant.
