Begonia coccinea

Evergreen shrubby species. Erect stems 90-120 cm long, glabrous. Irregularly ovate leaves, up to 15 cm long, coriaceous, solid green above, red below with a serrate, reddish margin. Pendulous, branched inflorescences with red petioles and orange flowers with a diameter of 2-3 cm. Native species of the Brazilian Atlantic forest. It requires well-drained soil and a shaded position. Regular watering throughout the year but slightly more spaced in winter. This species grows rather slowly and is very sensitive to temperature changes and watering errors. Not hardy. Plant in 12cm pot.
