Clumping subcylindrical cactus. Stem initially globose then cylindrical up to 10 cm long. The stem is densely covered with thorns up to 12 cm long, white in color with black tips. Apical flowers, white-pink. This species is native to northeastern Mexico and southwestern Texas. In nature it grows in desert and sub-desert areas often under thorny shrubs but also on limestone cliffs and among tufts of grass between 300 and 400 m. It prefers very well-drained soil and a sunny or semi-shaded position. Water once every 10-15 days in the growing season. In winter leave completely dry. Half-hardy. Bare root seedling.
