Succulent species with partially creeping stems. Semi-erect reddish stems, tending to creep or fall back, sub-cylindrical with little tubercles. Star-shaped flowers with a very evident central annulus, with a diameter of 5-7 cm, of a light cream color strongly spotted with very dark purple, almost black. Flowering begins in about mid-summer and often lasts well into autumn. Native species of South Africa (Western Cape Province) and grows on gentle (more rarely steep) stony slopes, sometimes under bushes but also more or less completely exposed on rocky slabs or ledges. Half-hardy. It prefers well-drained soil and a partially shaded position but will also tolerate full sun. Since it comes from areas with winter rains, it tolerates winter humidity and summer drought well. Bare root little plant with single or slightly branched stem.
