Succulent species native to western Argentina. Stems made up of numerous subspherical articles arranged one on top of the other. The articles are spineless (they only have areoles) or with 1-2 flat and pointed spines; they are green-grey in colour and come off easily. Showy white flowers. Easy to grow, it requires well-drained soil and a sunny or semi-shaded position. Water every 10-20 days during the growing season (spring-early autumn) but leave dry in winter. Hardy up to -9°C if well dry.
