Sub-shrub species with spiny leaves. Rigid, ribbon-like leaves, up to 90 cm long by 1-3 cm broad, equipped with curved and prickly spines on the margin and a curious tuft of apical hairs. Up to 5 m tall inflorescence formed by very numerous small yellowish flowers. In appearance it is very elegant. Native to Mexico and the southern United States where it grows in arid areas on slopes, canyon edges and limestone or granite hills. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny or partially shaded position. Water every 10-15 days in summer, dry or partially wet in winter. Hardy. 1 potted plant 20 cm.
