Slow-growing semi-succulent species. Leathery leaves, with spiny apex, cerulean green in color, up to 75 cm long, with white edges that tend to detach in long fibrous bands. Iniflorescence slightly higher than the leaves, compact, consisting of numerous white pendulous flowers. This species does not develop a true stem as the lowest leaves remain at ground level. The species is quite common in its natural habitat, in fact it is native to the deserts of the south-west of the United States (Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah) and north-western Mexico (Sonora and Chihuahua), between 400–2500. Hardy up to -18°C.
