Ground cover herbaceous perennial. Small plant with spatulate leaves of more or less intense red color gathered in a basal rosette. The rosettes produce many stolons at whose apex new plants form that root when they touch the ground. Inflorescences up to 20 cm tall, leafy, bearing numerous blue bilabiate flowers in spring. Eurasian species spontaneous also in Italy. It grows mainly in damp meadows, roadsides and clayey soils preferring a semi-shaded position (but can also be in full sun if the soil remains moist all year). Completely hardy species. Potted plant.
