Succulent tufted species.
Two-row leaves, 14-18 cm long by 3,5-4 cm broad, of pinkish grey-green color with numerous small slightly raised white tubercles. About halfway through the leaf the tubercles form a sort of semicircle. Tubular flowers, swollen at the base, pendulous, pinkish-red in erect inflorescences.

In the wild, it grows on hilly terrain, river valleys and vertical rock ledges, on outcrops of shale and sandstone and occasionally limestone, in arid open fynbos vegetation, from sea level up to 300 m. Precipitation is around 300-500 mm per year. Rain falls you know in winter than in summer but with a tendency towards summer drought. Summers are hot with cool nights. Winters are moderate with occasional light frosts.
Well-drained soil and partial shade. Water every 15-30 days in summer and once or twice a month in winter.
Half-hardy.
Slightly branched bare root plant.
