Caudiciform species. Roundish caudex, semi-buried. Linear leaves, which develop directly from the caudex, up to 30 cm long, hairy especially on the margin. Yellow star-shaped flowers on branched, semi-pendulous inflorescences. The species is native to the eastern United States and Canada where it grows in both wet and dry environments such as prairies, open woodlands, fens, glades, abandoned fields and lawns. It likes well-drained, humus-rich soil and a partial shade location. Water regularly in summer and scarce in winter. Hardy. 1 potted plant 14cm.
