Short-lived perennial semi-woody species. Stems up to 1 m long, lignified at the base. Light green lanceolate leaves. Apical inflorescences bearing numerous star-shaped flowers with yellow petals and yellow crown, semi-pendulous. Horn-shaped fruits follow which, when opened, release numerous flat seeds with pappus. All parts of the plant contain a white latex that is slightly toxic if ingested. The species has a very broad distribution range from southern North America through Central America to South America and has been introduced to many parts of the world. In nature, it grows in humid and well drained soils and in meadows and prairies in full sun up to 200 m in height. Half-hardy species, it prefers well-drained soils, abundant summer watering and positions in full sun. 1 plant 12cm pot.
