A perennial herb with a stocky, creeping stem.
This species has a large, stocky, creeping or semi-erect, branched stem. Its leaves are large, ovate, glossy, and crenate along the margins, with prominent veins. In winter and spring, it produces dense inflorescences that are much longer than the leaves, characterized by numerous pink, bell-shaped flowers, more or less pedulous.
A native species of Central Asia (Siberia, Mongolia, and the Himalayas), where it grows in woodlands, often clinging to rocks or near streams.
It prefers well-drained soil free of stagnant water. It prefers a shaded location and regular watering in summer.
Perfectly hardy.
