A species native to Mexico, Central America, northern South America, and the West Indies. It grows almost everywhere, climbing trees, bushes, hedges, and any other support it can find.

It requires well-drained, humus-rich soil and a sunny or partially shaded location. Water regularly in summer but less frequently in winter.

Not hardy.
