Rhizomatous species with small whitish, scaly, cylindrical rhizomes. Slightly branched, reddish herbaceous stems. Ovate-lanceolate leaves with visible veins. Tubular, semi-pendulous flowers, red externally, yellow internally with red dots and 4 red apical lobes. Flowering occurs in summer-autumn. The plant goes into vegetative rest in autumn, completely losing the aerial part. The dormant rhizomes should be left in the pot and placed in a place where they do not freeze, watering them only once a month. During the growing season, on the other hand, watering must be regular, avoiding water stress. Slightly drained soil but rich in humus and shaded position. The type species is native to Bolivia and grows in forests, mostly at the margins of waterfalls. Not hardy. 6 rhizomes or potted plant 14 cm in diameter.
