Rhizomatous species deciduous in winter. Stems thin, semi-pendulous, reddish. Leaves ovate, pubescent, light green above and reddish below. Solitary, bell-shaped, purplish-blue flowers with a white throat. Abundant flowering from mid-summer to late autumn. Native to southern Mexico. In nature it grows on damp rocks in a semi-shaded position. It therefore requires a very well drained soil and a position in partial shade. Abundant watering in summer and scarce in winter. In summer, never let the soil dry out otherwise the plant will suffer and may stop flowering. In winter, water a couple of times a month but don't leave the soil dry for too long otherwise the rhizomes will dehydrate. Not hardy. Plant in a 14cm pot or 10 rhizomes.
