Rhizomatous species deciduous in winter. Very small stems with obovate leaves, light green in color with sparse white spots. Inflorescences up to 20 cm long, unbranched. Flowers small, solitary, axillary, bell-shaped, with white, three-lobed lower lip, bi-lobed, red upper lip and yellowish-white throat streaked with red. Blooms in summer. Native species of Brazil (Mato Grosso). In the wild it grows in forests, on rocks, along streams or on moist soils. It prefers a full shaded position and a well drained substratum to be kept always humid. In winter, during the vegetative rest, reduce the watering to 2-3 per month. Not hardy. Plant in a 14cm pot or 6 rhizomes.
