Winter deciduous rhizomatous species in. Stems are erect or slightly pendulous, reddish. Leaves are ovate-lanceolate, slightly serrated along the margins. Solitary, pendulous, bell-shaped flowers, 5 cm long, uniformly purple in color, in inflorescences up to 30 cm long. Native to Brazil (Cerrado, Amazonia, Caatinga). In the wild, it grows in mountain forests, among rocks. Requires well-drained soil and a shady location. Water regularly in summer but sparingly in winter (1-2 times a month). Not hardy. Plant in a 14 cm pot or 6 rhizomes.
