Rhizomatous species with winter rest. Lanceolate leaves, dark in color, slightly hairy. Flowers solitary, tubular, pendulous, red on the outside and yellow on the inside. Lobes of the corolla are very small and red in colour. Native species of Central and South America, it grows in mountainous areas in humid and shady places. The plant can go into vegetative rest in winter if watering is stopped or maintain vegetation if placed in a warm place and watered regularly. It requires well-drained soil and a shaded position.
