Rhizomatous species native to central and southwestern China.

Ensiform leaves up to 30 cm long by 2-2.5 cm wide. Floral scapes bearing 2-3 flowers with a diameter of 10 cm with white flowers spotted yellow at the base. Flowering occurs between April and May.

Very hardy, in nature it grows on rocky cliffs, at the edges of forests, under shrubs, on grassy slopes and even in wet meadows, both in the sun and in the shade, up to 3500 m. The name refers to the fact that it can often be seen growing on the roofs of houses.

It requires well-drained soil and a location in full sun or partial shade. Regular summer watering is required, but it can tolerate short periods of drought.

Rhizome.
