Rhizomatous iris with a creeping underground rhizome.

This iris species is found only in some areas of the central Apennines and the Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise National Park. In nature, it grows in mountainous areas, preferring alpine pastures or uncultivated meadows, but it is also fond on rocky slopes. The plant has ensiform, glaucous leaves that can reach 50 cm in length. Flower scapes up to 65 cm long appear in May-June, bearing 2-3 flowers of varying intensity.

It prefers well-drained soil and a position in full sun or partial shade. It requires little watering, except for occasional watering during the summer if it hasn't rained for a long time.

Perfectly hardy.

Rhizome.
