Sisyrinchium palmifolium

Native to South America (Peru, Brazil and northern Argentina).

Ribbon-like leaves up to 50 cm long, evergreen, glaucous-green in colour. Inflorescences in summer composed by numerous yellow flowers with 5 tepals which open in the afternoon. Very floriferous and easy to grow.

In the wild it grows in forests, under shrubs and in grasslands. It requires a semi-shaded position and deep, humus-rich soil.

Hardy, it tolerates winter rains and frost but needs regular watering in summer.
