Clumping species with underground rhizomes. Linear-lanceolate leaves, 50-60 cm long. Erect, branched floral scapes bearing numerous bell-shaped flowers with 6 tepals of an intense yellow colour. As its name indicates, the flowers last only one day, but open in succession day after day. Native to eastern Russia, Korea, northwestern China and Japan. It grows in meadows and on mountain slopes. Deep, moist (especially in summer) and humus-rich soil. Sunny or semi-shaded position and abundant watering in summer. Hardy. Potted plant or rhizome (winter).
