Succulent species with creeping stems.

Cylindrical stems with barely visible tubercles, up to 90 cm long, purplish-green in color that becomes more pronounced in winter. Pendulous, five-lobed, densely papillose flowers, dark purple in color, 14–22 mm in diameter.

Species native to a restricted area in the Transkey (Eastern Cape, South Africa). In the wild, it grows in the savannahs of the Eastern Valley Bushveld in pockets of soil and leaf litter that accumulate on cliff ledges or rocky outcrops, usually facing north or east. In its inaccessible habitat, it is protected from the impact of trampling and livestock grazing, the main threat in this area. Summers are hot, and winters are somewhat colder but frost-free. Precipitation occurs mainly in summer in the form of thunderstorms, with amounts ranging from 300 to 800 mm per year.

Huernia pendula is very easy to grow (one of the easiest stapelia species to grow).

It prefers a lightly shaded location for best results (but tolerates both full sun and shade). It tolerates strong summer heat very well and can tolerate quite cold temperatures, but not frost. A well-ventilated area is also preferable. Water approximately every 7-10 days during the growing season (approximately from March to October). In winter, it should remain dry, and a little water can be given only if the stems become excessively dry. Very well-drained soil, such as that used for cactus, is recommended. Suitable for both pots and hanging baskets.

Not hardy, but can tolerate temperatures around 5°C (41°F). In autumn, it's best to keep them outside until the temperature drops below 5°C (41°F).

Bare root plant.
